Intaglio Print - The Crab
Intaglio Print - The Crab
This 5x7" print was made using a process called intaglio, or metal etching. Using a zinc plate, the artist repeatedly marked the plate with a resistant material and exposed the plate to acid, creating grooves and texture on the plate that hold ink. This piece features a pair of hands delicately holding a small hermit crab. It was printed with Gamblin etching ink in sepia on soft & sturdy BFK Rives paper.
For each print, the plate is inked by hand, aligned with the paper, and rolled through a press, which may result in small variations or imperfections from piece to piece. This is part of the handmade charm of the printmaking process, and makes each piece slightly unique!
This print will be shipped via the USPS in a stiff envelope inside of a plastic sleeve with cardboard backing for extra protection against bending & weather.
